A world full of wonders - Or big brother....
Today two letters arrived on the doormat from Dutch government offices:

a. Your request to have you British driving license exchanged for a Cloggie license has been approved. You can collect your new license at the local town hall in 5 days.

b. After an investigation by the justice dept into your background you have been granted a certificate to show you are of suitable character to work in transportation of people. (ie bus/taxi driver).

Now brethren, this might not seem so wonderful to you.. but, considering that point 'a' has taken me 4 months chasing around, cost +€250, required multiple visits to numerous gov. depts, it's a wonder indeed..

item 'b' was also a touch and go situation.. you see yours truly has not always been a very good fella and there would be some who would smile indeed at the thought that the Dutch justice dept. feel I'm a decent and law abiding fella.. Maybe it also helped that I had to pay €40 for the service of the government investigating me.

Now, these two items arriving on my doormat on the same day..... I don't believe in coincidence... It's a conspiracy!

Highland Cathedral
As some know I dabble in a bit-o-music. At a practice session with our band, Rolling Home a 40 man strong folk choir, last night I introduced the idea of playing this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8FnzSSQGrI

and including it in our next theater production... Highland Cathedral lyrics

There is a land far from this distant shore
Where heather grows and Highland eagles soar
There is a land that will live ever more
Deep in my heart, my Bonnie Scotland

Though I serve so far away
I still see your streams, cities and dreams
I can't wait until the day
When I'll come home once more

And so Lord keep me from the harm of war
Through all its dangers and the battle's roar
Keep me safe until I'm home once more
Home to my own in Bonnie Scotland

Another version is

Land of my fathers, we will always be
Faithful and loyal to our own country.
In times of danger we will set you free,
Lead you to glory and to victory.

Hail, Caledonia, to our ancient prayer,
In this Highland Cathedral let our standards bear,
Joining together with one dream to share,
God bless the people of this land so fair.

Gone is the past, let us start anew,
Let this hope of peace always remain.
Spirit of Scotia be strong and true,
Then our children will smile again, again, again, again.

Rise, Caledonia, let your voices ring
In this Highland Cathedral of our God and King.
Who joy and liberty to all will bring.
Come let your heart with love and courage sing.

other idea's which I'll have the band working on...:
Fairytale in New York,
Mountains Of Mourne
Dockyard Wall

knockin' shop
Well as some of you might have read, yours truly got himself a little job as a driver to and escort lady.

Got a call last night to go pick her up and take her to work in a city nearby.

Well, got to her home and called her to say I was outside. When she stepped in the car I nearly got blasted out from the schtink! The schtink of makeup and perfume was overpowering... and I thought.. holy cow, my car is going to shtink like a bloody knockin shop (to quote my 'ol dad).
A pleasant young lass of about 20ish.. http://nachtparel.nl/ (Danisha)
She calls herself Danisha and I wondered if this as her real name and if everyone in this game has substitute names.. so, while driving I began thinking of a name for myself.. could not think of anything ....I think my real name is the most easy for me to remember so I'll stick with it!
Anyway, a plesant girl, nice conversation.. After checking that she had my mobile nr I dropped her off at a residential address given and assured her that I would be parked further down the road and could be with her with 60 secs if she called.

Sitting in the car for an hour in a residential area late at night is weird.. people coming by walking dogs (several passes to check if the guy just sitting in the car is a dodgy sort and up to no good), and me minding my own.. with my mp3 player listening to Kate Rusby.. I felt like a bit of a naughty lad trying to seem inconspicuous.
An hour or so later Danisha called and asked me to collect her, two mins later she jumped in the car and said " Well that worked" .... now anyone who knows my sense of humor would now know that I have about 5 puns ready right here and then.. but I remained quiet and we started the journey back home.
I dropped her off at her home and she payed me for my driving her (agreed fee the escort stipulates) and I drove home to a nice cuppa..
No big event but food for thought...

Myrddyn gone missing!
Today I had occasion to go to the police station today to make a declaration that I'd lost my cloggie driving license. I needed this declaration to apply of a replacement.
The kindly police lady person had a go at looking me up on the police database and to my horror announced that they didn't have any record of me.
Now, that is big news..
You see (years ago, when I was a young lad in the west London suburbs), I'd been a regular hotel guest at British police stations, maybe they don't record that kinda thing in clogglyland from police over the pond, but, I've also had occasion in my 25+ years here in flatland to (on a compulsory basis) visit cloggie police stations here (now don't go thinking that I'm a hide-away great train robber), for minor bit's and pieces..

So here's me thinking.. arrr how nice.. nice clggie police people..forgive and forget...

Off back to the local council buildings to get a declaration (from the same computer system the police use) to take to show to the police to prove that I exist. Back to the police with my paper and.. no problem at all Mr Myrddyn, glad to be able to help you, you fine upstanding member of our society. How nice!

Well this leaves me thinking, good job I'm not one of those fellas that like to hoard tons of fertilizer in my garage and various chemicals.... The good people in blue would never who to look for.
Wouldn't be any good anyway, I was never good a chemistry..
bet they don't know that either ;-)

The good news is, I'm not missing anymore

End Of Season
Well the darts season draws to and end...
Our team NOMADS won the division with two matches to go and now we're off Monday to a knockout championship for division winners to determine who represents the province of Groningen in the national championships... so, maybe.. just maybe..
Our last game of the season was filmed by a Dutch television show .. I'll post a link when it is aired. To add to the show we thrashed the opposition that evening 9-0 too :-)

At village club level after a good start but after missing a few evenings, ended up 4th in my local village and second in the adjoining village competition.
Several other local tournaments were won, so all in all a great season.
Next year I'll curtail the amount of darts played but then up the ante by playing more testing opposition.
All in all member of our team NOMADS swept the board winning all local tournaments held around these parts since Christmas.. well done lads!
NOMADS Darts Team

Then, I'm joining a folk group, Rolling Home Folk Choir as their man on the fiddle, maybe mandolin and tenor banjo too later. Starting probably next week, so that will swallow up quite a bit of my social time. We kick off by going to the
Skagen Folk Festival in Denmark at the beginning of July. A session with The Wolfe Tones in the musicians tent is what I'm sure will be my highlight, great craic that will be!

The first bit of common sense I've seen in family law for years
A woman left infertile after cancer therapy has lost her fight to use embryos fertilised by an ex-partner.

Natallie Evans, from Trowbridge, Wilts, and Howard Johnston began IVF treatment in 2001 but he withdrew consent for the embryos to be used after they split up.

She turned to the European courts after exhausting the UK legal process.

Ms Evans, 35, said she was "distraught" after the Grand Chamber of the European Court ruling, but Mr Johnston said "common sense had prevailed."

Shoddy Goods & Quality Control?
I'm fed up to the teeth with the shoddy quality of my o.a.p. toy-r-us kits.
Most of the battery powered gear just stop, break, don't work from kick-off or whatever.. it's just not on!
I've contacted the office of fair trading many times and the lady I spoke to promised a thorough investigation.. that was the last anyone saw of her.

Well, I'm not one to sit on it.. so, I've done a bit of research and I see a grand opening.. a career change.. I've decided to set up a new business. - Vibrator Repair Man.. that's it.. I'm sure it's a niche market and I recon I'll make a tidy sum at it too..

So, Monday I'm off to the d.i.y. shop to get myself some tools.

Anyone in dire need of repairs.. don't worry, I'll have it up and running in no time.. place your pre-orders for repairs now!

Here's a link to help you. You too could start business in your area:

Dog: Nov 1991 - Dec 2006
DOG
Dog my friend and companion of 15 years has gone. The pain is tremendous.
I have many scars from losses, some I’ve recovered from some I haven’t. DOG’s passing has wounded me grievously. I’m afraid this scar will last forever.

But, it’s a good part of healing to begin with thinking of the future and what positives and maybe even negatives that will come from her going.

Positives:
I won’t have to repair the latch on the food cupboard door.

I don’t have to worry about her getting hit by a bounced dart while I’m practicing.

We’ll have a nice picture in a boxed frame on the wall with a box built in the back with her ashes inside; she’ll still be with us.

No more guilty feelings for me when I send her to her basket and want to take the whole couch for myself.

Negatives:
With DOG no longer p’ing on and wiping/scratching her feet on the grass in the back garden, there’s no longer any excuse for me not relaying a new lawn.

We are going to be swamped with old newspaper. No longer will we have to roll up carpets and put old newspaper down in case the ‘ol Girl has an accident while were away.

I’ll no longer be able to play DOG detective and look for her around the outside of the house and smile at her guilty look when I’ve discovered where she’s sneaked off to.

My feet are going to get cold now she’s not on the end of the couch warming them.

There are a few more +/- points I’m sure and they’ll come to me in time. Time is a healer they say but the scar remains.
I’m proud to have been DOG’S friend and proud that she learned to be mine too, she was/is the only animal I really loved.
